TITANIC RADIO ROOM

Titanic Radio Shack (600 x 450).jpg

This mini replica of the radio room of the RMS Titanic is based upon photographs of the radio room of the RMS Olympic, a sister ship to the Titanic in the White Star Fleet. MGY is the call sign assigned to the Titanic by the Marconi Company which provided the equipment and staff for the radio room. The replica radio room was constructed by FX Chapter Member Don Andrus and drew considerable attention during the 2012 Morse Day celebration. It is currently on display at the Molly Brown House in Denver, CO, but will move to the Denver Air and Space Museum later this summer.

TITANIC REPLICA RADIO KEY

Titanic Key replica (600 x 450).jpg

This replica of the wireless telegraph key from RMS Titanic was handcrafted by FX Chapter Member Don Andrus, based on images of the style of key with which Marconi equipped the larger ships in the White Star Fleet. The base of the key is 9x5 inches, a monster of a key. On the left side of the key is a knob, which looks as though it is another key. It is not a key, but a knife switch used to open the circuit when the large contacts on the key welded themselves together, due to the high current used in the transmitter. The smaller key to the right was used for the emergency spark gap transmitter.
