SEPT 24, 2016 RIFLES, RAILS AND HKSTORY, TAVARES, FL
The wood-burning steam locomotive, The Orange Blossom Cannonball, will b on hand during this annual event to provide rides for visitors of all ages. Florida Chapter members will have a telegraph office set up in the replica depot in Wooten Park in downtown Tavares, where they will interact with the train similarly to the way it was done when both steam locomotives and Morse telegraph were in use. . Civil War reenactors skirmishing in the park will add to the excitement. Visitors to the depot will have an opportunity to try their hand at sending Morse Code while they learn of the importance of the telegraph in American History. HOURS 9AM-5PM. ADMISSION FREE.
OCTOBER 22, 2016 PINELLAS COUNTY HERITAGE VILLAGE JUBILEE, LARGO, FL.
Florida Chapter members will have the SAL Ry Sulphur Springs, FL depot open where they will act as telegraphers and station agents during the annual Pinellas County Heritage Village Jubilee. . The restored depot will come alive with the sounds of American Morse, with continuous demonstrations all day as entertaining and educating visitors of all ages who will learn of the significance of the telegraph system in the USA and Canada. NOVEMBER 5, 2016 FALL JAMBOREE, PIONEER ARTS SETTLEMENT, BARBERVILLE, FL
The sound of music will be heard all over the Arts Settlement as performances take place at various locations, but it will not drown out the sound of American Morse Code emanting from the old Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Pierson, FL depot, now located on the grounds of the Pioneer Arts Settlement. Visitors will have the opportunity to use antique telegraph instruments to try to send Morse Code while they are learning about the importance of the telegraph to the development of the railroads in the United States and Canada and the subsequent development of both c ountries.
DECEMBER 3, 2016 HERITAGE DAYS, FLORAL CITY, FL
Florida Chapter members will display and demonstrate antique and replica telegraph instruments and equipment during this annual event celebrating the history of this communitywhich was, for a time, at the heart of the phosphate industry in the state. Visitors will hvae the opport\tunity to try their hand at sending American Morse Code while learning about the role of the telegraph in the railroad operations which transported phosphate to the market. At the same time, they will learn of the larger role of the telegraph in the development of the railroads in the United States and Canada and the part that the railroads played in the development of both countries.
DECEMBER 10, 2016 COUNTRY CHRISTMAS, PIONEER VILLAGE, DADE CITY, FL
Florida Chapter members will have the telegraph instruments in full operation in the old ACL RR Trilby depot, now located on the grounds of the Village during this new event. Visitors will see how a depot functioned 75 years ago, including copying and hooping up of train orders while learning of the role of the telegraph in railroad operations and American history. They will also have the op[portunity to try to send American Morse code on the original antique instruments in the depot. The Pioneer Village is locted one mile north of Dade City, on U. S. Highway 301. HOURS 9AM-5-M.
DECEMBER 10, 2016 FLORIDA CHRISTMAS REMEMBERED, ARTS SETTLEMENT, BARBERVILLE, FL
One of the features of this annual event will by Florida Chapter members sending Santagrams for young visitors on a direct wire from the old ACL Pierson depot to Santa Claus at the North Pole. Visitors, young and older, will also have the op\portunity to try their hand at sending American Morse code on genuine antique telegraph instruments while learning about the role of the telegraph in communications and in the development of the railroads in both the United States and Canada. The settlement is located about a quarter of a mile west of U.S. 17, just to the south of State Road 40 on County Road 3. Hours 9AM-5PM.
JANUARY 28, 2017 FOLK FESTIVEAL, PINELLAS COUNTY HERITAGE VILLAGE, LARGO, FL
The antique telegraph instruments in the old SAL Rwy depot, now located on the grounds of Heritage Village, will be in full operation during this annual event, as Florida Chapter members demonstrate their use to vistors, who will be able to try their hand at sending American Morse code on those same instruments. While doing this, visitors will learn of the role of the telegraph in the development of both the United States and Canada and its role in history. HOURS 9AM-5PM.
FEBRUARY 4-5, 2017
The old ACL RR Trilby depot, now located on the grounds of the Pioneer Village, will be open and the sound of American Morse code will be heard as Florida Chapter members demonstrate the use of the antique telegraph instruments during this annual two day event. Visitors will have n opportunity to try their hand at sending American Morse code on thos same instruments while they learn about the role of the telegraph in the operation of railroads and its larger role in the development of the United States and Canada. Pioneer Village is locate on U.S. Highway 301, one mile north of Dade City. HOURS SAT 9AM-5PM, SUN 9AM-4PM.
